On Wednesday last January 12th, I excitedly popped in to the River Island head office on Grafton Street during my lunch to see what they had in store for us for the Spring/Summer seasons ahead. Obviously we all have an idea already of what kind of trends are in store for SS 11 but I always love to see how different brands incorporate the trends into their collections & what little twists they inject into them to make make the current trends more in tune with their specific brand.

From walking into the River Island press studio I found myself surrounded by at least 5 rails all offering a different trend to choose from:
From the 70's inspired glamour (think halterneck dresses with thick high chunky sandals Charlies Angels style), the Margot collection which is all about the vibrant side of the 70's with bold bright block colouring pieces to the Comune trend which is prints mixed in with denim for a more casual look. These pieces would be perfect for the festival season.
They also had a Marrakesh theme which had lots of garments with embellished prints on light & floaty chiffon materials, perfect for the beach or your yacht moored in St. Tropez if you're one of the few lucke ones ;) There was also the the 'Retro Geek' collection which is basically a clash of all kinds of prints from stripes to florals to polka dot to animal prints all consisting of a kaleidoscope of colours.

My front runner favourites though had to be the Beach Comber All White style trend with lots of super cute crochet detailing pieces, the Mollie trend which has taken inspiration from my best-loved tv series of the moment 'Mad Men' - so think 60's style shapes, gorgeous applique all with a lovely sugary/pastel colour palette to go with & if you didn't think you already had enough choice from all those there is the trend de resistánce for this coming spring/summer & that is the once again 70's inspired 'Nomad Trend'. The earthy colour palette has all my favourite colours of the moment from burnt orange & toffees to the white/creams & tans. There was a mix of fabrics from high waisted suede trousers to peasant style chiffon blouses. The collection had a fabulous feathered print chiffon long skirt which all the super models have been wearing of late.

So as you can see River Island seem to have covered All areas for us this season & you'll be glad to know that the clothes are filtering into stores now as I type. Below are some images I took at the press day & I will be posting some of my favourite lookbook images & stills from their S/S 2011 collection tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday & Happy shopping!!!! xoxo
